There are still legitimate tax-saving moves you can make before the April 15 deadline — even after December 31. IRA contributions, HSA contributions, and a few other strategies can still reduce your 2025 tax bill.
IRA Contributions: You Still Have Time
You can make a traditional IRA or Roth IRA contribution for 2025 up until April 15, 2026. The contribution limit is $7,000 ($8,000 if you're 50 or older). A traditional IRA contribution may be deductible depending on your income and whether you have a workplace retirement plan. Even a non-deductible traditional IRA contribution can be valuable as part of a backdoor Roth strategy. Don't leave this on the table.
HSA Contributions: A Triple Tax Advantage
If you have a high-deductible health plan, you can contribute to a Health Savings Account (HSA) for 2025 up until April 15, 2026. The 2025 contribution limits are $4,150 for self-only coverage and $8,300 for family coverage (plus $1,000 catch-up if you're 55 or older). HSA contributions are tax-deductible, grow tax-free, and withdrawals for qualified medical expenses are tax-free. It's the only account with a triple tax advantage.
